On this private Modern Istanbul tour you see the city its people live in today: from Taksim Square down the busy Istiklal Street to the narrow streets of Galata, then across the Bosphorus by ferry — from Europe to Asia — to Kadıköy, the liveliest neighbourhood on the Asian side.
Your licensed guide walks with you the whole way, tells the story of each district and shows you where locals shop, eat and drink their tea. At the end, your guide brings you back to your hotel — or you can stay on in Kadıköy for the evening.

Where you’ll visit
- Taksim Square: the heart of modern Istanbul, with the Republic Monument.
- Istiklal Street: Istanbul's most famous avenue, with its red nostalgic tram, the Çiçek Pasajı arcade, Galatasaray High School and the Church of St. Anthony of Padua.
- Galata: the Galata Tower (seen from outside — the tour does not go inside), the Camondo Stairs and the streets of Karaköy.
- Ferry from Europe to Asia: about 20 minutes across the Bosphorus, with views of the Old City skyline, Topkapı Palace and Haydarpaşa Station.
- Kadıköy: the market streets with fishmongers, pickle shops and coffee roasters, Bahariye Street and the Bull statue.
How the day goes
- Start: your guide meets you at your hotel in Taksim, Galata, Karaköy or Sultanahmet, and the tour starts on foot. Staying elsewhere? We agree an easy meeting point nearby.
- Taksim to Galata: an easy downhill walk along Istiklal Street to Galata and Karaköy.
- To Asia: the public ferry from Karaköy to Kadıköy.
- Kadıköy: time to walk the market streets. Lunch is optional — your guide knows good local places.
- End: your guide brings you back to your hotel. If you would like to stay on the Asian side, you can end the tour in Kadıköy.

Where do we meet?
If your hotel is central, your guide comes to your hotel and you start the tour together on foot or by tram. If you are staying further out, we agree on an easy meeting point nearby.
How much walking is there?
It is a walking tour at an easy pace, with rest stops whenever you need them. Tell us if anyone in your group has limited mobility and we will plan the day around it.
I’m arriving on a cruise ship. Can I book this tour?
Yes. Your guide meets you at the Galataport cruise terminal in Karaköy and the tour starts from there; at the end, your guide brings you back to the terminal. When you book, write Galataport as your hotel and add your ship’s name and its arrival and all-aboard times in the notes.
Will I be back at the ship on time?
Yes. We plan the route around your ship’s all-aboard time and bring you back to the terminal 1 hour before it.
What if my ship doesn’t stop in Istanbul?
Our usual cancellation policy applies: cancel up to 48 hours before the tour for a full refund minus the payment processing fee (up to 5%).
How do I pay?
You can reserve with a $100 deposit online and pay the rest on the day of the tour, or pay the full amount online. Payments are made on Stripe’s secure page.

Is tipping mandatory?
